Mission Statement

Nebraska Village of Promise offers an independent-living environment to developmentally disabled adults who wish to maximize their individual promise and potential while living together and enjoying all the benefits of the metropolitan area.

Our Philosophy

People with developmental disabilities have a choice to live and work in a setting where they are acknowledged as contributing members of the community in which they live and participate.

People with developmental disabilities have the capacity to experience happiness and to share happiness with others.

A sense of belonging is vital to people of all abilities.

“Family-unit” homes located near work and services provide a rewarding and nurturing environment for the residents.

Collaborative support services which allow disabled adults to have a voice will reveal each individual’s value, unique strengths, vocational ability, and developmental potential.

Reaching out in partnership with other providers, government and educational institutions will further enhance the personal growth of Village residents and the entire disabled community.

Effective services and programs must be built on the foundations of communication, trust, and mutual respect.

Village History

The concept of Nebraska Village of Promise was born in 2004 by a group of concerned parents of developmentally disabled young or adult children and various community leaders working with this population of individuals. After a steering committee researched the concept of a comprehensive “village”, further research was conducted to determine the level of existing and future need. The results of these research efforts supported the decision to move forward to create the Nebraska Village of Promise.
